How do I add a new course?

You can add a course at any time by clicking the 'Add a Course' link in the Sidebar. There you will have options to create or join a course if you're a student, or to create a public course if you're a teacher.

What is the difference between creating a course and joining a course?

Students have the options to create private courses for themselves or to join a public course that a teacher set up.

You have complete control over private courses in that you can add assignments, manage course settings, and manage your own grades. If you join a public course, you can still complete assignments and add files, notes, or links to the course page but you will not be able to edit your grades or edit any assignments.

How do I join a public course?

To join a public course, enter the Public Course Code that your teacher gave you into the field and click 'Join Course'. Then you will be enrolled and have access to the course page and all of the information tied to it.

Once you join a course, you can complete assignments and add files, notes, or links to the course page. However you will not be able to edit assignments or any of your grades.

What's a Public Course Code and how do I get one?

When your teacher created a public course she was given a public course code to give to students so that they could enroll in the course at GradeMate. You can get the course code by contacting your teacher who has access to it.
